"Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king."
Not the greatest hook for an opening line, but the action that follows more than makes up for it.
For those of you who don't know, Brandon Sanderson-a writer well known for finishing up The Wheel of Time-has released(well, his publishers at Tor-Forge)the introduction, prelude, prologue, and first three chapters of his awaiting 10 book epic saga, The Stormlight Archive, with book one being The Way of Kings.
This series might be better than most, maybe close to the Wheel itself. I know thats saying a whole lot.
Taking place on the world of Roshar, Brandon tells us of an assassin sent to kill a king, a spearman who is lucky...or lucky to be alive, and also of a young woman wishing to be an apprentice to a heretic. These chapters give us so much information on Roshar, but simultaneously so little.
I found myself reading the sneak preview multiple times, and it never gets boring!
Sanderson is well known for his "magic systems", but their is so much more than that. The worlds he creates, the characters he envisions, the epic action, and the stories he tells are all evident in this sneak peek. So, when reading anything Sanderson, make sure you know what your in for.
